Author Mark Travis worked for many years as a reporter and editor at the Concord Monitor, and now serves as publisher of the Valley News in West Lebanon, N.H. Pliney Fiske, his first novel, is a Civil War mystery involving a timid young pension agent, a boy maimed in the war, a spirited war widow, and a group of battle-scarred veterans intent on preserving a dark secret. Travis is also the co-author of My Brave Boys, a nonfiction history of the Fifth New Hampshire Volunteers, who suffered the most battle deaths of any infantry regiment in the Civil War's Union Army.
